He was involved as school teacher, directed youth programs, urban counseling and motivational programs prior to leaving Rhode Island. At Emmaus he was exposed to jail ministry through the student ministries program. After three years of volunteer service as a student, and one year as an Assistant Chaplain, Harry came on with good News Jail & Prison Ministry. THE WORK: Each week Chaplain Roundtree and the volunteer ministry team serves a large number of inmates in Division VI, Division I and the South Campus (DCSI) facilities at the jail. The jail ministry team conducts counseling/crisis intervention sessions, Bible studies, discipleship/leadership training classes, evangelistic preaching services, follow-up ministries to Christian inmates transferred to State prisons, pastoral visits and special services for inmate families and ex-offender, grades Bible lessons, supervises correspondence/letter writing programs, and trains prospective volunteer partners in the ministry. They have programs such as "Adopt an Inmate and His Family”, “Bells of Hope”, and “Remember the Forgotten at Christmas” to minister inmates and their families. As a life of one individual is touched behind the walls, the lives of a family is touched also. Lives are restored and families are united on the outside. email Chaplain Roundtree at: Jailchap6@aol.com |
